Prof. Parveen Kumar
Prof. Parveen Kumar is the author of Kumar and Clark, the standard Text book of Clinical Medicine and several other books. Prof. Kumar is professor of Medicine and Education at Bart’s and London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary College, University of London and honorary consultant physician and gastroenterologist at Bart’s and the London NHS Trust and the Homerton University Foundation Hospital NHS Trust. Her area of chief research interest is celiac disease .She is a past president of the British Medical Association and is President -Elect of the Royal Society of Medicine and will take over the Presidency in July. Prof . Parveen will be speaking on the medical curriculum during the symposium.
   
Prof. Hossam Hamdy, MCH, FRCS,FACS

Prof. Hossam Hamdy is a an international authority on medical education, currently serving as the Vice Chancellor for Medical Colleges and Dean, College of Medicine at university of Sharjah. He also serves as a Senior Consultant in Pediatric Surgery at Qassimi Hospital in U.A.E. He is the Vice President of the World Federation of Medical Education and a Consultant on Medical Education for WHO and UNESCO. He is a Member of the Editorial Board of The Journal of Medical Education. He completed his Fellowship in Medical Education at Boston University, USA and earned his Ph.D. in Medical Education from the University of Groningen, Netherland. He has served as the Director of Medical Education for the Ministry of Health in Bahrain and Dean of College of Medicine and Medical Sciences in Arabian Gulf University. Prof. Hossam Hamdy will be giving a lecture on Assessment in medical education.

   
Prof. Harald Rosen, MD, EBSQ

Prof. Harald Rosen is a renowned educator and Professor of Surgery at Vienna Medical School, St. Vincent Hospital, Vienna. Prof. Herald Rosen has authored several scientific articles and is an international authority on Colorectal illnesses. Prof. Rosen will give a presentation on Diverticular diseases and will discuss controversies in the management of these illnesses during the symposium.

   
Professor Frederick Fenech

Prof. Frederick Fenech, a well known geriatrics specialist, is currently the Director of International Institute on Ageing, United Nations at Malta. Prof. Fenech conducts the fellowships in geriatrics for the Merck institute. Prof. Fenech has made several research publications and presentations and is considered to be a pioneer in the field of geriatrics and medical education. He will be talking on “Prescribing in the Elderly".

   
Mr. Pradip K Datta

Mr. Pradip Datta is a renowned surgeon and educator who is currently the Honorary Consultant Surgeon, Caithness General Hospital at Wick. Mr. Datta also serves as Member of council and College Tutor and is the former Honorary Secretary of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Dr. Datta has made several presentations at international scientific seminars and has several publications to his credit. Dr. Datta will enlighten the audience on Communication skills in an interactive session at the Medical Education Symposium.

   
Mr. Irwin, MD DMI FRCS (Ed) FRCS (Lon):

Mr. Irwin is a member of a four consultant colorectal surgical team at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast. He partners in this team with Mr Keith Gardiner. Together they provide a service to patients with severe abdominal sepsis and intestinal failure. He is a former council member of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland, both as the Northern Ireland representative and as the chairman of the ACPGBI web site committee, and was previously a member of executive and council, as well as chairman of the web site committee of the European Society of Coloproctology. The interactive and provocative session by Mr. Irwin will be on “Fluid and Electrolyte therapy in surgical practice: “two liters a day” is not enough!”

   
Dr. Abdul Hadi Sadiq Al-Hillawi:

Dr. Abdul Hadi Sadiq Al-Hillawi has been a consultant physician in Geriatric medicine since 1987 and is based at Wycombe Hospital in Buckinghamshire. He qualified from The Middlesex Hospital Medical School (Univ.London) in 1977, and became a Registrar on The Professorial Medical Unit in 1981.He was a research fellow at The Brompton Hospital Pulmonary Physiology Department where he gained his MD Thesis. He trained as Senior Registrar in General and Geriatric medicine in Oxford and Amersham before being appointed Consultant at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in 1987,moving to High Wycombe in 1999. His interests include respiratory disease in old age and rehabilitation. He has been an examiner in MRCP PACES since 2002 and is involved in question setting for this exam in the ‘talking stations’. He was appointed a Censor of the Royal College of Physicians of London in August 2009.
