Prof. Mohammed Galal El Din Ahmed

Prof. Mohammed Galal El Din Ahmed has been the Dean of Dubai Medical College since October, 2000. He is also the Head of Department of Anatomy. His academic Qualifications are:

  • Ph.D Anatomy, Aberdeen University, Scotland.
  • Masters Degree in Anatomy, Assuit University, Egypt.
  • Masters in Health Professions Education, Maastricht University and Suez Canal University.
  • M.B.B.S, Ain Shams University

His areas of research include quantitative morphometry (stereology) in Neuroanatomy, in which he has published several research articles. Prof. Galal has been committed towards excellence in medical education through use of cutting edge technology. He continues to inspire the faculty by encouraging innovative teaching methodologies and institutional research in addition to frequent Faculty Development initiatives. He was instrumental in organizing the DMC medical student union, which later founded the Emirates Medical Student Society. He also empowers students through a culture of self-assessment by introducing structured appraisal systems. Several such initiatives have earned him a reputation as a leader and promoter of a student-based learning environment.

Prof. Galal has constructively contributed in restructuring international standards of medical education as member of the Regional Consultation of the WFME and the Emirates Medical Board. Prof. Galal is an eloquent speaker and has presented several articles on medical education internationally. The recent strides taken by DMC under Prof. Galal’s inspirational leadership have brought accolades from the American accreditation team, Dubai Quality Award & MRM Excellence awards.

Professor Muscat-Baron qualified in Medicine at the Royal University of Malta and St. Luke’s Medical School in 1958. He did his postgraduate training in England and Scotland and obtained Fellowships of the London, Edinburgh and Glasgow colleges.

He was appointed a Consultant Physician and Senior Lecturer in Medicine in Leeds and Halifax group of hospitals, and he subsequently was appointed as a Consultant in General Medicine and Cardiology in the Dubai Health Authority.

He has since been the Founder Professor of Medicine at the Dubai Medical College and has been the Clinical Dean for over 25 years.

Prof. Abdul Jabbar

Prof. Abdul Jabbar Mehdi Salih, a British national born in Iraq. He graduated in Medicine from Bagdad University Medical School in the year 1966. After completing his studies and training in surgery, he moved to United Kingdom and obtained the Fellowship from both Royal Colleges of Surgeon in Edinburgh and London in the year 1979, worked in several known teaching hospital in Edinburgh and London in Training and teaching in surgery. While living in Great Britain he continued his studies and had a great interest in Medical Law and Ethics, and graduated from Keele University with MA in Law and Ethics. In the year 1986 Prof. Abdul Jabbar came to UAE and started working as a Consultant in General Surgery in Rashid Hospital - Dubai. Prof. AJM Salih had a great interest in teaching and training of undergraduate student and postgraduate trainee, to impart his knowledge to medical students. In 1992 he got the opportunity to teach in Dubai Medical College for Girls and presently he is the professor of Surgery. During the tenure of his services, Prof. AJM Salih has received many honors and awards: Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons, Fellow of American Biography Institute and Fellow of Royal Society of Medicine UK. He is involved in many medical research works and has published more than 55 high quality papers published in leading International Medical Journals and National and International Surgical Conferences, also reviewed many peer reviewed journal articles. He has authored many books on Medical Practice and one among is: In Head, Heart and Hand Make good Medical Professionals. He is involved and head of the CME programmes of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences.

Dr Mehernoosh Sheriar Irani is a Consultant Rheumatologist at Ashford & St.Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Middlesex. He is also Hon. Senior Lecturer at Imperial School of Medicine, and Examiner of Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons, London (MRCP) & (MRCS).

Dr Mehernoosh Sheriar Irani qualified in medicine at King's College and King's College Hospital, London in 1974. He has worked as House Physician to Drs Oram, Elkington and Jewit, Kings College Hospital, London; Kent & Canterbury Hospital; worked as House Surgeon in General Surgery Kent & Sussex Hospital, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

His post graduate training and practise was done in various departments including Nephrology, General Medicine , Rheumatology - at Regional Dialysis & Transplantation Unit Kent & Canterbury Hospital, The Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford.; Charing Cross & Westminster Hospitals. Besides postgraduate training and practice he taught Undergraduate and Postgraduate Medical students at Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford; Charing Cross Hospital, University of London; West Middlesex University Hospital. He has also obtained fellowships of London.

Professor Mahmoud Mohammed Hassan Marashi qualified in medicine at Guntur medical college, Andhra Pradesh - India in 1975. He did his undergraduate training in Andhra University, India. His post graduate hematology training was done in the UL at Heartlands Hospital, Birmingham, (formerly East Birmingham Hospital), The West Midlands Blood Transfusion Service, Edgbaston, Birmingham, The John Radcliffe Hospital and Churchill Hospital in Oxford, UK. He has also obtained fellowships of London.

Prof. Marashi has been involved in medical education for over 20 years. He is a Professor of Medicine and Hematology and is the Head of the Academic Department of Medicine, Dubai Medical College / Dubai Health Authority. He is also an external examiner for the Royal College of Physicians of UK.

He is a member of The European Hematology Association, The International Society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis. He is a regular participant at the Annual Congress organized by these organizations, as well as other hematology organizations.

Prof. Nabil D Sulaiman

Prof. Nabil is the Head of Department of Family and Community Medicine and Behavioural Sciences, senior consultant, the University of Sharjah, a senior Fellow at the Department of General Practice, The University of Melbourne, Australia, and a senior research fellow at the Baker/ International Heart and Diabetes Research Institute, Melbourne, Australia.

He has worked in several universities including Australia, the UK, Yemen and Iraq as well as Sharjah, winning several research and education awards. He is the principle investigator of several qualitative and quantitative diabetes and NCD research projects in Sharjah, UAE and Melbourne, Australia, including two NHMRC grants one on diabetes (the PEACH study: Patients Engagement and Coaching for Health) and the other on the effectiveness of spirometry in General Practice Asthma Care. He has attended over thirty international/national conferences as speaker/ invited speaker. Most recently he was invited with colleagues from WHO centre from Pittsburgh University as speaker and facilitator for the “Diabetes and NCD Super course” at Alexandria Library January 2009. Nabil has published in distinguished Journals including the British Medical J and Medical J of Australia.

Prof. Matthew Walters

Matthew Walters is the Professor of Clinical Pharmacology at the Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences at the University of Glasgow. He has served as the director of the Scottish Stroke Research Network since 2009 and as lead physician for Cerebrovascular medicine in West Glasgow between 2004 and 2015. His research interests lie in the treatment of cerebrovascular disease, with a particular focus upon acute strategies. He has approximately 150 publications in this area with an H index of 30.

His research is supported by recent grants from the Medical Research Council, the Stroke Association, the British Heart Foundation and the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council.

Prof. Roger Vaughan

Professor Roger Vaughan qualified in medicine at Leeds University Medical School in 1974.

He did his post graduate training and practise in University Hospital - South Manchester, Wythenshawe Hospital - Manchester.

He was previously Consultant Thoracic Surgeon at Heartlands & Solihull NHS Trust, Heartlands Hospital, and Birmingham.

He was in full clinical practice till 2008 when he had disc problem of the neck due to which he was advised to stop clinical practise. After which he continued his interests in medical education mainly by teaching and examining in Royal College of Surgeons and more recently in York and Hull medical school and in UEA medical school.

He is currently Professor at University East Anglia Medical School, UEA, Norwich Research Park, and Norwich.
