Prof. Mohammed Galal El Din Ahmed

Prof. Mohammed Galal El Din Ahmed has been the Dean of Dubai Medical College since October, 2000. He is also the Head of Department of Anatomy. His academic Qualifications are:

  • Ph.D Anatomy, Aberdeen University, Scotland.
  • Masters Degree in Anatomy, Assuit University, Egypt.
  • Masters in Health Professions Education, Maastricht University and Suez Canal University.
  • M.B.B.S, Ain Shams University

His areas of research include quantitative morphometry (stereology) in Neuroanatomy, in which he has published several research articles. Prof. Galal has been committed towards excellence in medical education through use of cutting edge technology. He continues to inspire the faculty by encouraging innovative teaching methodologies and institutional research in addition to frequent Faculty Development initiatives. He was instrumental in organizing the DMC medical student union, which later founded the Emirates Medical Student Society. He also empowers students through a culture of self-assessment by introducing structured appraisal systems. Several such initiatives have earned him a reputation as a leader and promoter of a student-based learning environment.

Prof. Galal has constructively contributed in restructuring international standards of medical education as member of the Regional Consultation of the WFME and the Emirates Medical Board. Prof. Galal is an eloquent speaker and has presented several articles on medical education internationally. The recent strides taken by DMC under Prof. Galal’s inspirational leadership have brought accolades from the American accreditation team, Dubai Quality Award & MRM Excellence awards.

Prof. J. Muscat Baro

Professor Muscat-Baron qualified in Medicine at the Royal University of Malta and St. Luke’s Medical School in 1958. He did his postgraduate training in England and Scotland and obtained Fellowships of the London, Edinburgh and Glasgow colleges.

He was appointed a Consultant Physician and Senior Lecturer in Medicine in Leeds and Halifax group of hospitals, and he subsequently was appointed as a Consultant in General Medicine and Cardiology in the Dubai Health Authority.

He has since been the Founder Professor of Medicine at the Dubai Medical College and has been the Clinical Dean for over 28 years.

Professor Muscat-Baron has been Consultant Physician and Cardiologist in the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) for the last 39 years. He has been involved in medical education for more than 45 years having had a number of teaching appointments in the United Kingdom before coming to the United Arab Emirates. In Dubai, he developed the Internship Program, and later the Residency Program during his tenure as Head of the Higher Education Committee of the Department of Health & Medical Services (DOHMS)

He established the MRCP (UK) Examination of the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom and set up a regional office for this examination in Dubai, the only such office outside the United Kingdom. He is also Chairman of the Board of Examiners for the MRCGP (Int).

Prof. Hossam Hamdy


Prof. Hossam Hamdy is the Director of the Institute of Leadership in Higher Education at the University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

He wasHe was the Vice-Chancellor of  Medical & Health Sciences Colleges and Dean at the College of Medicine, University of Sharjah, U.A.E; Professor of Surgery & Medical Education at the College of Medicine Consultant Medical Education for World Health Organisation  and member of the Editorial Board of The Journal of Medical Education.

Dr. Dima Abdelmannan


Dr. Dima Al- Mannan, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Dubai Medical College and Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH, U.S.A. She is currently the Associate Clinical Dean at the Dubai Medical College and is a Consultant Endocrinologist at the Dubai Diabetes Center at Dubai Health Authority. Dr. AbdelMannan has dual boards from both the UK and the USA. In the United States she completed her internal medicine residency training from the Cleveland Clinic Health System and then completed fellowship training in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism from Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland, OH. She continued to do clinical and Research work at the same institution for several years after that before returning to Dubai, UAE.  Her research work is in the fields of Pituitary and adrenal diseases as well as Diabetes.  She has presented her work at national American meetings and published it in peer-reviewed journals.  Besides being interested in Clinical Endocrinology and research she has been interested in Medical Education and therefore took this leading role at the medical school in order to help improve the standards of medical education in Dubai and the UAE. Dr. Abdelmannan is a scholar of the Harvard Macy Institute of Health professionals as educators and is actively involved in implementing efficient ways in medical pedagogy including simulation and e-learning.

Dr. Syed Tanzeem Haider Raza

BSc, MB BS, FRCP, FRCP (Edin) MSc. Med Ed (Wales)

Dr. Raza is a consultant physician in acute medicine at royal Bournemouth and Christchurch hospitals NHS foundation Trust, UK. He was one of the pioneer physicians to set up the new specialty of Acute Medicine back in 1997. He is the Lead Consultant for his large Acute Medicine Unit at Bournemouth, which has been at the forefront of developing new and innovative ways of looking after acutely ill medical patients. He is also the Regional Advisor for Acute Medicine in Wessex.

He has a wide-ranging experience in education and training. He is the Director of Medical Education for his hospital in addition to being an honorary senior clinical lecturer with the University of Southampton. He is an Examiner for PACES and an External Assessor for the Royal College of Physicians London. He also works as an Associate Postgraduate Dean in the Wessex Deanery and sits on the executive board of the Wessex School of Postgraduate Medicine. He was also one of the Censors for the Royal College of Physicians of London.

He has extensive experience as a facilitator for various training workshops, is accredited Educator for the Royal college of Physicians and has completed a Masters degree in Medical Education from Cardiff University. 

Professor Parveen J Kumar


Professor of Medicine and Education at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London.

Parveen is a past President of the Royal Society of Medicine and the British Medical Association. She has held several roles in the Royal College of Physicians including being the Vice President and senior Censor, Director of Continual Profession Development, and International associate director for Education.

She has held various national roles: Chairman of the Medicines Commission UK, non-executive director of NICE and as a member of various committees. She is interested in global health and spends much time travelling abroad to teach, lecture and examine undergraduate and post-graduates, as well as for various education and research charities in low income countries. She is a great supporter of women achieving their full potential and playing an important role in medicine for the benefit of patients.

She co-edits Kumar and Clark's Clinical Medicine and several other books including a Medical management and therapeutics handbook.

Prof. Fathia Ali Bayoumy

PhD, Anatomic Pathology, MHPE,
Member of American College of Pathologists

After receiving her medical education at the University of Ain-Shams, School of Medicine, Dr. Bayoumi completed her anatomic pathology training and post graduate studies at Zagazig Medical College and Universities Hospital where she also was trained in cytopathology. Her primary interests are in immune histochemical markers in differentiating different lesions.

Dr. Bayoumi research interests are focused on anatomic and experimental   pathology. She has masters in medical education from Maastricht and Suez Canal University and more than 25 years teaching experience in medical colleges.

Dr. Munther Al-Doori

MBBCh, FRCS, FACS, PhD(Bristol)

Professor. Aldoori is the consultant general & vascular surgeon at the Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Trust in the UK a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Leeds and a Visiting Professor at the University of Baghdad.

Prof. Aldoori has been a Member of the General Medical Council since 1999 and in the same year was elected to the Council of the Vascular Society of Great Britain & Ireland.  He trained at the Bristol Royal Infirmary where he also undertook his major doctorate level research on the role of carotid surgery in preventing stroke.

He has published more than 70 peer reviewed papers and abstracts, 17 chapters in nine books and co-author of a book “Clinical Surgery – A Practical Guide”.  He is also the reviewer of manuscripts and books for several journals.

He is the chair of the local BMA Committee and a Fellow of BIDA (British International Doctors Association).  He is an examiner at several medical schools including Leeds, Baghdad, Dubai, Kuwait and Sharjah, as well as a postgraduate examiner for three Royal Colleges and a member of intercollegiate Board in General Surgery.  He is also an examiner and supervisor to the Libyan Board in General Surgery and continues to work with colleagues to improve training standards.

Prof. Gloria Pelizzo

Full Professor of Pediatric Surgery,Head of Surgery, Foundation Institute of Research and Teaching Hospital S Matteo, Medical School, University of Pavia , Italy, Member of Health Ministry of Italy

Prof. Gloria Pelizzo is currently the Head of surgery and professor at San Matteo hospital and a Member of Ministry of Health in Italy. In addition to teaching surgery at medical school University of Pavia, she is also teaching at Erasmus University.

Prof. Gloria specialized in Pediatric Surgery from University of Ferrara and continued to subspecialize in Microsurgery from University of Brescia (1991) and Reconstructive Surgery for hand malformations from University of Modena in 1987-88. Among many others, her qualifications also include postgraduate masters in Fetal medicine and Prenatal Surgery from University R Descartes of Paris in 1995.

She is has membership of several associations such as European Association of Endoscopic Surgery, Association Interrégionale de Recherche en Chirurgie Pédiatrique and European Board of Pediatric Surgery.

Dr. Gloria has published landmark research articles in the field of fetal surgery and pediatric robotic surgery. Her major research areas include translational research on e-nanotechnology in fetal surgery, Robotic pediatric

Dr. Mike Irani

BSc (Hons); LRCP, MRCS, MBBS (King’s College Hospital Medical School), MRCP, FRCP (London, Edinburgh, Glasgow), FRCS, FISM, FFSEM

Dr. Michael Irani graduated at King’s College and King’s College Hospital Medical School. He is a Consultant Rheumatologist at Ashford & St Peter's NHS Trust. His interests are in spinal pain, paediatric rheumatology, metabolic bone disease, personal DMARD monitoring and sports medicine. He is an honorary senior lecturer of medicine and supervisor for students from Imperial School of medicine over their 5 year program. He is also a recognized teacher in medicine at University of London. Dr. Irani is an examiner and question setting group chairman for MRCP and MRCS. He has also been an official doctor for the Great Britain team for the Olympic Games. He is a member, Judicial Appeals Commission, Ministry of Justice of UK.

Dr. Fouzia Shersad

FRCP (Glasg.), MHPE, FIMSA, Fellow (FAIMER)
Director, Institutional Effectiveness Unit, Dubai Medical College

Dr. Fouzia Shersad, Director of Institutional Effectiveness Unit at Dubai Medical College is also a faculty member in Department of Pathology. Dr. Fouzia is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (Glasgow). In addition to a mini-fellowship in instructional technology at University of South Florida, Dr. Fouzia has obtained a Masters in Health Professions Education from Maastricht University & Suez canal University. Currently, she is a global faculty discussant of JMHPE listserv of Maastricht University & Suez canal University.

Dr. Fouzia has served as a senior assessor of Dubai Quality Award and has been active in the field of Quality in Higher Education. Dr. Fouzia completed the fellowship of Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) in 2011. In doing so, UAE became the first country in the Middle East to join the FAIMER network.

As Director of Institutional Effectiveness at DMC, Dr. Fouzia led the college to achieve the prestigious Dubai Quality Award and MRM Excellence award in 2012. She is an ardent researcher in the field of excellence in medical education and has peer-reviewed, presented and published several articles on medical education.

Dr. Doaa Sultan

Dr. Doaa Sultan took up education in Mansoura Faculty of Medicine - Mansoura University- Egypt. She graduated in 1991 with MBBCh and she completed her Master's degree in 1997 and her PhD in 2004.

She is associate professor and Head of Department of Medical Parasitology- Dubai Medical College. Dr. Doaa is actively involved in several international associations of Parasitologists such as the International Congress of Parasitology (ICOPA).

Dr. Doaa is in charge of elective projects of students and has supported student research for the last 10 years. As head of educational support services committee, she was instrumental in updating learning technology at Dubai Medical College.

She is an avid researcher and has published and presented more than 25 papers in conferences and reputed journals.
