Dubai Medical College was established in 1986 as a non-profit educational institution by Haj Saeed Bin Ahmed Al Lootah, with Prof. Zahira Abdeen as the founding Dean.

Dubai Medical College has achieved many accreditation milestones in the last 31 years. These are:

  • The college is accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, United Arab Emirates, since 1994. The college has complied with the Standards of Licensure and Accreditation put forward by the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA),  since its inception. The CAA is the highest authority for accrediting Higher Education institutions in UAE and ensures that all institutions of higher education follow stringent guidelines to meet international standards.

  • DMC undergoes a continuous accreditation & reaccreditation process covering all areas of World Federation for Medical Education WFME standards and is scrutinized and evaluated by teams of visiting professors from reputed medical schools in USA.   • Currently, the college is enlisted in WHO Directory of Medical Schools, International Medical Education Directory (IMED) and World Directory of Medical Schools. (

  • The medical degree awarded by the DMC is recognized by the General Medical Council, UK

  •  The medical degree awarded by the DMC is recognized by the ECFMG, USA.

  • The college has implemented the EFQM excellence model comparable to the Malcolm Baldrige model and was therefore awarded the Dubai Quality Award in 2011.

  • The college has also been recognized with the World Education Congress Award.

  •  The college has also been awarded the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum (MRM) Award for Excellence in 2011.

  • The college is also recognized by Medical Board of California (USA).

  • MBBCh awarded by DMC is recognized National committee for the Evaluation of Degrees in Bahrain.

  • Dubai Medical College is also recognized by Karachi University Medical College.

  • Dubai Medical College is recognized by Al-Azhar Medical College and Supreme Council of Universities (Egypt)

  • Dubai Medical College is recognized by Ministry of Higher Education of Saudi Arabia.

  • The final MBBCh exam of Dubai Medical College is conducted by External Examiners who come from University of Glasgow, London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London, University of Leeds and other reputed Universities in UK.

  • A new requirement applicable to all countries states that accreditors, like CAA, have to be accredited by WFME. As of May 1st, 2017 only 7 countries in the world have completed this process. Currently Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) under Ministry of Education in UAE, is going through the review process with WFME. Once this review is completed, all medical colleges in UAE will be automatically accredited by WFME.

Many DMC graduates have successfully completed their specialization/fellowship in US and Europe, and are working as consultants and subspecialists all over the world.
