The Student Union Elections for the academic year 2020-2021 was virtually held on Sunday 28th of February 2021 from 1-3pm hosted by the Elections Organising Team lead Adiba Valeed of Batch 34, supervised by Dr. Hiba Ismail (Student Affairs Committee).
The main objective of the election was the formation of the new Student Union that represents the voice of the students, promotes their ideas and advocates their views and interests, serving as a mode of communication between the faculty and student body.
The registration was open from 11th to 17th February 2021, followed by the online campaign that took place from 18th to 27th February via the official DMC Instagram page. Despite the challenges faced due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the candidates showed their creativity and enthusiasm in making posters and running campaigns which were posted on Instagram.
On the highly anticipated Election day, the ceremony began by Adiba Valeed with a motivating introductory speech followed by each candidate giving a 3-minutes candidature speech highlighting their goals, course of action and future plans.
Following the speeches, the students of Batches 34 and 35 were given a 30 minute window to vote. The voting was carried out in a fair and free manner through a Voting Survey conducted on the LMS.
The air was filled with excitement and nervousness awaiting the highly anticipated results.
The survey results were then announced by the Elections Organization Team and the following candidates were elected to form the new Student Union body for the year 2021:

● Vice President – Goumana Hany
● General Secretary – Maryam Rahmatullah
● Assistant General Secretary – Ifrah Ayesha Imdad
● Events Coordinator – Hafsa Ubaid
● Secretary of Islamic Committee – Ameera Majid
● Secretary of Arts and Media Committee – F. Hana Naushad
● Secretary of Science Committee – Goumana Ashraf
The new formation of the Student Union was finalized by appointing the following members by the DMC Dean:
● Treasurer- Nawal Nasser Al Suwaidi
● Member – Zahraa Mohamed Hayani
The challenge that COVID-19 has implied on the world, esp. the educational system, helped us plan for conducting formal events virtually. The virtual DMC Student Union Elections was conducted successfully, crowning the new members and giving them the chance to express their creativity and innovation during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic.
